The Use of BBC Learning English in Improving Students' Grammar Mastery

Introduction

Integration of technology into EFL classrooms in this digital learning era is essential. Mohamad et al. (2020) stated that the use of  Information and communication technology (ICT) for  learning are dominated by Generation Z learners. Grammar is an important skill because it is the basis of a language that needs to be understood, but many people still find it difficult. BBC is one form of technology application in learning that provides free resources and activities for teaching and learning English. There are many contents such as quizzes, vocabulary, grammar, courses, and many other useful contents. According to findings from Saeedi and Biri (2016), students can improve their understanding of grammar through the use of videos watched with the help of technological devices. The results of pre-tests, post-tests, and interviews with students in the study showed that the use of technology in grammar teaching had a positive effect on students' mastery of grammar. This essay discusses how BBC Learning English is integrated into grammar teaching by highlighting its characteristics, how it is applied, and its benefits.

Literature Review

In language learning, BBC Learning English is widely used because of its multimedia base. Grammar material is presented through various features such as interactive quizzes, videos, and games. These features make grammar learning more flexible and interesting (Konotop, 2024). The integration of digital-based learning such as BBC Learning English can be implemented through blended learning. Research shows that regular or weekly use of such tools can increase student motivation, memory and vocabulary, as well as learning according to student abilities. (Hamdani & Puspitorini, 2021); (Sujana et al., 2020). BBC Learning English has been proven to have a positive impact on grammar comprehension, both for classroom teaching and independent learning, even though it is not specifically designed for grammar learning. (Paramita & Ayu, 2024).

Findings and Discussion

BBC Learning English can improve grammar mastery through contextual material. The material connects with daily life situations, such as conversations on campus or in the workplace. It makes grammar relevant to use. It can also help students remember and apply grammar structures in their speaking and writing skills. (Konotop, 2024). The multimedia elements from BBC also increase students motivation and engagement. The use of interactive games and videos makes students enjoy it. Gamified content enhances students motivation that lead to engagement, so it can make a better outcome. (Hamdani & Puspitorini, 2021). Students are also indirectly influenced in terms of grammar through reading and listening activities. Improved understanding of grammar and accuracy of usage is aided by the process of imitation and repetition of audio-based material. Indirect Influence on Grammar Through Listening and Reading Activities (Nurislami et al., 2024). Flexible learning allows students to learn grammar according to their needs. This situation supports independent learning, which is very effective in accommodating differences in learning styles and ability levels among students. Students also benefit from grammar exercises that are designed to be flexible and tailored to their individual needs (Sujana et al., 2020).

Conclusion

BBC Learning English has been proven effective in improving students' grammar skills. Through contextual videos, interactive quizzes, and other multimedia content, learning becomes more engaging and easier to understand. The platform also supports independent and flexible learning, as well as increasing student motivation. Although it is not a grammar-specific application, its use has a positive impact on both classroom and independent learning.Bagian Atas Formulir
